But red rice yeast contains Lovastatin, which is the active ingredient in a prescription statin. The quality and the quantity of that statin is in question when you use red rice yeast. Lifestyle Changes Reduce Cholesterol without DrugsLifestyle changes may not work as fast as statin medications, but a nutritional diet, exercise, and natural supplements can help reduce LDL cholesterol by 20 to 40 percent. Statin percentages are a little higher, but the cost of using them is not worth it for a growing number of people. Some people who are diligent about exercising and eating healthy can lower their low-density cholesterol by as much as 60% over the course of six months. If you add a natural supplement that is rich in niacin, soluble fiber, and plant sterols you can reduce that time frame. Overall, it's much easier to reduce your low-density cholesterol number.
